Marvel announced today that they had signed Robert Downey Jr. to appear in Avengers 2 and Avengers 3, ending a tense standoff between the actor and Disney. Downey had allegedly held out on contract negotiations in order to provide leverage for the renegotiation of other actors' paychecks, some of whom made only a fraction of Downey's paycheck for the movie. The question now is whether or not Downey was able to convince Marvel to open its notoriously tight pursestrings.
The contract is only for the two Avengers movies, so don't expect Downey to appear in cameos for other movies or in an Iron Man 4 movie. Still, the news does mean that Disney's well-positioned to dominate the comic book movie market for the next few years.
