Announced last month, Kindle Worlds is already growing, and the world of comic books can't hide from its fan fiction. Today, Amazon announced that Valiant has signed onto the Kindle Worlds Fan Fiction program. Any writer wishing to tackle stories based on current Valiant heroes like Bloodshot, X-O Manowar, Archer & Armstrong, Shadowman, or Harbinger will soon be able to publish them under Amazon's banner.
Keep in mind this will not apply to characters that Valiant no longer holds the rights to. So older Valiant properties that they licensed, like Solar and Turok, will not be applicable.
The Kindle Worlds store will launch later this month and include Valiant-branded short stories from authors Jason Starr, Robert Rodi, Stuart Moore, Scott Nicholson, and more. So if you wish to join their ranks, and earn a meager wage for your fan-fic, then get writing! Commission pays 20% on works between 5,000-10,000 words, and 35% on works over 10,000, just beware the fine print.
No matter your opinion on whether this is a good deal for Kindle Worlds authors, expanding into serialized and pulp fiction is a sure way to continue growth. It will be interesting to see what becomes of Amazon's project.
