Mattel Shocker: Masters of the Universe Line Not Canceled, & Further Woes for DC Action Figure Line

It appears the Masters of the Universe line from Mattel is far from dead. The company confirms waves for the action figure line until 2015! Plus the fates of the Batman Beyond and Damian Wayne figures from Batman Unlimited line revealed!!

Though you've might not have known it (this reporter didn't), Mattel canceled the DC Unlimited and Batman Unlimited lines at retail chains. So what is to become of two figures that weren't released yet, but teased at Toy Fair this past year and SDCC this past month as well:

Over at Action Figure Pics, representives of Mattel have a column there were they answer fan questions. Well, this week's passage answered the question:

Damien might be more possible as he is an original character like Larfleeze. Batman is a little harder as he is an existing character with new wings and a head. The question is, would fans want us to release that Batman Beyond as a monthly sub fig? We are honestly a little hesitant as we only have 12 slots a year and we hear form fans they would prefer original characters. Let us know! Either way, the soonest you might see either of these would be very late 2014 or 2015 if the subs happen.

Translation? As always with Mattel if you want to see the item, you're gonna have to lay preorder money down early, or get a subscription that may even not gurantee these figures. Aren't they a swell company to do that?

As for why the two DC lines were canned and now online exclusive here's what Mattel had to say on that:

We are always working with retailers to find the best way to bring DC figures to mass collectors and moms and kids. Right now the 6″ line will continue on Matty pending we get the min number of sub holders.

Futher on in the answers to these various questions, it appears or at least currently there is no apocalypse with the Masters of the Universe line, though earlier this past week you could have fooled us with designers for the figures, the Four Horsemen, were crying out that the end was nigh for the line. Here's what Mattel had to say about MoTU:

2015 will basically be a mirror of 2014. Think of it this way; there are two vintage snake men left, Tung Lasher and Sqqueeeze. One will be in 2014, the other in 2015, pending we get the minimum number of sub holders each year!

So there you have it, "pending" if you translate via Mattel is "Give us more of your money! Like now instead of later!" The line appears will still going on strong in 2015. Unless of course, the Four Horsemen are right and the Mattapocalypse is almost upon us!  Nah, they're pulling our leg again. OR MAYBE NOT! Nope, they really are. OR ARE THEY!?
