Source: Bayonetta Game Gets Anime Film by Gonzo in November
It was revealed today that videogame property Bayonetta will be getting a theatrical anime in Japan this Fall titled Bayonetta: Bloody Fate. From the look of things, the film will star the
mane main character Bayonetta and much of the cast from the first videogame.
The Bayonetta videogame was launched in Japan in 2009 (2010 in the USA) for the XBox 360 and Playstation 3 consoles. The game is of the action genre and chronicles the adventures of the shape changing and armed witch Bayonetta and her journey to regain her memories and battle Angels.
Despite being generally well-received by critics and achieving decent sales, a sequel for the original game was not in the cards since Sega was conserving funds at the time (a bit of irony with yesterday's announcement that they would be acquring the Index Corporation). In 2012, it was announced that Nintendo stepped up as a partner, so Bayonetta 2 will be produced and exclusive to it's console in the future. Bayonetta now becomes a franchise.
The anime will be directed by Fuminori Kizaki (Afro Samurai, X-Men anime) and animated by the anime studio Gonzo. Unlike the original videogame, the anime will be voiced in Japanese by Japanese voice actors. It will be released on November 23, 2013. No word as of yet of a Western release for the movie.
