Do you remember a couple of months ago, when DC held a contest to decide which artist could best draw a picture of Harley Quinn trying to kill herself by electrocution in a bathtub? Do you remember the ridiculous amount of negative press that came out of it, which led to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, American Psychiatric Association and National Alliance on Mental Illness to criticize DC, and led to DC apologizing in a statement to the Huffington Post?
Well, the page at the center of the controversy, Harley Quinn #0, was released today, and features a slightly different version of that page:
For reference, here's the original description of the fourth panel:
Harley sitting naked in a bathtub with toasters, blow dryers, blenders, appliances all dangling above the bathtub and she has a cord that will release them all. We are watching the moment before the inevitable death. Her expression is one of ‘oh well, guess that’s it for me’ and she has resigned herself to the moment that is going to happen.
While the final version of the page makes clear that the writers are poking fun at Quinn's participation in DC's Suicide Squad, and confirms that the page has a metatextual aspect to it, DC has decided to forego the controversial scene and replace it with a picture of Quinn riding a rocket in space.
So...hooray for progress? I guess?
