Marvel Offers Fans Chance to Ruin 75th Anniversary Omnibus

That's just asking for Trouble.

In the dog bites man department, Newsarama published a press release from Marvel Comics today. In the man bites dog department, they actually labeled it as such. Titled "Choose the Contents of Marvel’s Massive 75th Anniversary Omnibus," the press release asks readers to email their picks for the best Marvel stories of all time, with the essentially unverifiable claim that this will affect which stories make it into the massive hardcover collection celebrating the company's 75th anniversary.

But taking the claim at face value, this is a dangerous game Marvel is playing. Sure, fans will probably send in lots of votes for classic Marvel tales that deserve to be in there. But what if tons of Liefeld fans campaign for the inclusion of Cap Boobs? What if some fun-loving assholes with a well-known comic book blog encourage readers to request that Avengers story where Carol Danvers is raped an impregnated by her own time-travelling child? What if everyone spontaneously decided to vote for Trouble, the abortion of a Mark Millar romance comic starring Aunt May and Mary Parker involved in some kind of teenage pregnancy drama and featuring jailbait pictures of twelve year old models in bikinis on the covers?

Yeah, that would be terrible. So don't do that, readers. Understand? Whatever you do, do not open up dozens of fake email accounts and send Marvel emails requesting Trouble be included in the 75th anniversary omnibus. That would ruin Marvel's celebration, and it wouldn't be cool or funny, alright?

Here's the press release:
